Governors

Welcome to our Governors' section.

Dan Jones – Chair of Governors -

01.09.14 - 01.09.18  2 Yr Term

My name is Daniel Jones and I have served as a governor for the past 5 years. My election to Chair of Governors took place in November 2013 and I am immensely proud to serve the school in this way.
Aveley Primary School is a happy place where young people feel safe and supported.  Our school ethos is based on inclusion and being at the heart of the local community.
The school’s latest Ofsted Inspection, undertaken in the Summer of 2014, highlighted the many strengths of Aveley Primary School and the Governing Body was very happy with the ‘Good’ outcome.  However, we recognise that the school must consistently strive to improve and innovate to ensure the best possible outcomes for its pupils.  The Governing Body is heavily involved in the creation of the School’s Improvement Plan and acts as a ‘critical friend’ in all matters.
Working very closely with the Head Teacher, the Governing Body is ultimately responsible for the curriculum delivery, the school’s finances, personnel matters and also maintaining the school premises.  The Head Teacher, with her staff, is responsible for the planning, teaching and monitoring of the National Curriculum and the day-to-day running of the school.  The Governors, Head Teacher and staff work in partnership to promote the aims of the school.
The Governing Body is immensely proud of what the school consistently achieves and has a real determination to do even better in the future.  We have great plans in place to take the school forward in the coming years.
In short, the Governing Body’s aim is to ensure Aveley Primary provides its pupils the best educational start in life helping them to become happy, confident individuals who are given every opportunity to reach their potential.
I hope you will find the website useful.  We welcome feedback and ideas on how we can improve.

Nicola Shadbolt – Staff Governor - Headteacher

I am originally from Rayleigh and have lived in Essex for most of my life. Aveley Primary is the fifth school that I have worked in and I have been the Headteacher here since January 2001. In this time there have been many changes and Aveley is now an over-subscribed school which aims to offer all children a varied curriculum, and a wealth of experiences, to ensure that they can achieve in all that they want to!

Elijah Sanni - Governor

26.03.14 - 31.03.18

As a parent Governor, I am committed to making sure that every child has aspirations to fulfil their potential. My aim is to ensure that all our staffs, pupils and their families have a school to be proud of and always feel valued, happy and safe.

I work at the London Gateway Port as Public Space Surveillance (CCTV) Team Leader. My experience on analysing data and scrutinising weekly report will be of good use in my role as a parent Governor to better the future of our children and Aveley Primary school system.

I have worked hard on building an effective working relationship with my co Governors and am committed to achieving further improvements at Aveley Primary. I belief Aveley Primary school is on a journey to greatness.

Marion Kidney – Co-opted Governor

01.09.14 - 01.09.18

My name is Marion Kidney. I have two daughters (Gemma and Hollie) who both attended Aveley Primary. I have one granddaughter (Beau) who is currently in Year 1.

I have been employed at the school for over twenty years and have taken on many different roles. Before being employed I was a parent volunteer. Currently I am a Learning Mentor with responsibility for safeguarding in school.

I became a parent governor not long after I began volunteering at the school and have seen many changes over the years. I am now a Co-opted governor.

Having lived in Aveley for most of my life I feel a strong connection to our neighbourhood and believe people of all ages benefit from a supportive community.

Caroline Hooper - Parent Governor

26.03.14 - 31.03.18

I have two children, one in Aveley Primary School and one now in Secondary School. I applied for the post as I feel strongly about the right to a good education for not only my children but for all children and have been a Parent Governor since January 2014.

I have worked in the Public Sector for over 20 years and have carried out a variety of jobs from Clerical, Team Manager, Accommodation Manager, Property Market Researcher and currently a Tribunal Appeal Caseworker.

My previous focus was on writing throughout the school which has made great progress over the last few years. My focus now is on math and in order for me to make sure all children have the opportunity to be the best they can be in this area I undertake monitoring visits and look at work across all year groups and discuss plans and resources that are or will be put in place. I also get to see firsthand the evidence that our children are progressing as reported by the Head Teacher at Governor Meetings.

Being a School Governor has its rewards. It is good to see the school progressing and being part of that and also being able to give something back to our community.

Mrs W Vanhegan - Co-opted Governor

01.09.14 - 01.09.18

I moved to Aveley in 1990. I have three sons all of which attended Aveley Primary School and where I have worked for almost 16 years. I consider it a great privilege to help and guide young people in the classroom.

It is very rewarding to belong to the governing body, responding to the responsibilities and challenges involved, and working in partnership with so many people to ensure that the pupils have a happy and secure environment in which to develop and achieve their potential.

I enjoy the outdoors and have recently conquered Snowdon! Walking with my husband, Glen and our Golden Retriever, Honey is also one of my past-times.

Phil Church - Parent Governor

26.03.14 - 31.03.18
I have worked in the Public Sector for 12 years and I am currently a trainer for new starters to the "business".  I have adult education and assessing qualifications and lately working towards my diploma and hopefully a degree in education and training.
I was elected to the governing body in December 2013 and started in post in January 2014.  Even before my eldest daughter joined Aveley Primary I have been passionate about the school's progress and development.  I have seen the school go from strength to strength and I am really confident about the future for this school.

Tracey Jagger - Parent Governor

My name is Tracey Jagger, I have lived in Aveley for 20 years , I have two son's one which has just left Aveley Primary  School and one that is still at Aveley. I am an Ofsted registered childminder  which I have been for several years now. I really enjoy my job but was also interested in the local school and how it helps develop mine and other children's education, so I applied to become a parent governor and was elected in Sept 2016. I am really enjoying learning about the school, the teachers and how happy the pupils are. They all work really hard and I am really confident about the school’s future.

Dan Scotcher – Staff Governor

I joined Aveley Primary in September 2010 teaching Year 3, however throughout my time at Aveley Primary I have taught across KS2. Currently I am phase leader for lower KS2, and have a strong passion for technology and its use to support learning in the classroom. Throughout my time teaching here, I have seen the school move from strength to strength and am very proud of what we have all achieved in a short space of time. I became part of the governing body in 2016, and look forward to seeing how we can continue our successes in the future.
